Dear ones,
What the difference between "give up" and "give in". When we should use one of the other?

He tried hard to pass the examination. Once he learnt that the result would not make any difference in his career he gave up his attempts. (stop working for something) In the beginning of the fight he seemed confident,but in the third round he gave in as he could not bear the continuous punches from the opponent .
