Difference

Hi,

What is the difference b/w following two.

I wonder, if you can come vs I wondered, if you could come.

Please, explain to me what is the frame of mind in these two?

Thank you

Hi

That's interesting. 'To wonder' is one of those verbs that you can use to describe either something that you do, in your mind, or else a state of mind that you can be in, over a period of time ..

MFarooqI wonder, if you can come vs I wondered, if you could come.
The first is probably a request/invitation - Can you come? (I would like you to come.)

The second is, depending on context:

either: A more diffident request/invitation
or: A report of a past-time wondering - I wondered whether you would come.
