Anonymous What's the difference between take a power nap and take a nap? Not much difference in effect, I think. A power nap is a short sleep which terminates before the occurrence of deep sleep or slow-wave sleep (SWS), intended to quickly revitalize the subject.

  • I also suppose that one's idea of a simple 'nap' is broader: a short period of sleep, typically taken during daylight hours as an adjunct to the usual nocturnal sleep period.

I have friends (much younger than I am) who take a power nap on Fridays to give them the energy they need to go dancing after dark. I think they also call it a "disco nap".
