Vocabulary

died by degrees

Especially I would thank Mary Ellen, who always thought this book would have to be dedicated to my first wife, who died by degrees.

What does 'died by degrees' mean?

Thank you very much for your reply.

Well, I would say "died gradually". But it's a very strange "acknowledgement". Is it in a humorous context?

Hi,

It means she died slowly, a small amount at a time. Not good.

Hi,

No, it's fine. I meant it's not a good way to die.
