I had multi choices today and the question was " did u remember_____the door?" well I have to pick either to lock or locking. Please tell me which one is right and why? cause I feel both " to lock" and "locking" work just fine xD

The expected answer is 'Did you remember to lock the door?'-- it means, 'do you remember if you locked it or didn't lock it?'

'Did you remember locking the door' means 'the door is certainly locked and do you remember that it was you who locked it?'
