I live abroad and the people here make these grammatical errors frequently:
- Did you went somewhere last weekend?
- Did you ran to the store?
I want to understand exactly what is going wrong. Is it that they are using the past tense of the verb even when using the past tense of the helping/auxiliary verb, which is redundant?
What exactly is the rule they are breaking?
Thanks!
Todd
The Simple Past tense with the auxiliary verb 'do' must be formed with the Simple Past form of 'do' + the base form of the main verb. eg You swam. You did swim.

After a form of auxiliary do (do, does, did), you must use the plain form (base form) of the main verb.
