Did you find what you needed? past tense after did

Did you find what you needed?
Why the word 'needed' is in past tense not root word since there's "did" in front of the sentence?

Sorry, I have no idea about affirmative construction. Could you give further information? Thanks

Affirmative: You needed.
Negative: You didn't need.
Interrogative: Did you need?

In your sentence, 'what you needed' is not a question. Did you find (what you needed)? is a question.
