1) The police officers took away the cellphones of many of the children present.

Could one use this sentence if:
Many (not all) of the children present had cellphones and their cellphones were taken away. No child was allowed to keep his or her cellphone.

Could one use this sentence if:
Many of the employees of that company had objections. The governor did not respond to any of them, No objection was responded to.
