My non-native English speaking friends and I talked about the two sentences below.
(1a) I did not have work for the last two months.
(2a) I have not had work for the last two months.
Some of them said you can say (2) and others believed that you can say either one. I think either one is correct depending on the context. I am going to revise them next.
(1b) I did not have work for the last two months until today. (That means I have work right now.)
(2b) I have not had work for the last two months. I think I will have work soon. (That means I still don't have work yet.)
What is your opinion about my explanation? Thanks a lot.
You are right. Instead of did not have work / have not had work you might consider I was out of work / unemployed / jobless. CB
