Did I write correctly?

I attached the hook on the bathroom door. Afterwards, I hung the towel onto the hook but it came off the door, not standing the weight of the towel.

Would there be another words which can change 'stand'?

Unable to stand would be better. Other possibilities include: not holding or unable to hold or failing to hold not supporting or unable to support or failing to support unable to withstand ( not withstanding could be misunderstood here)
