did I understand this extract correctly?

"Depend upon it, after all, Thomas, Literature is the most noble of professions. In fact, it is about the only one fit for a man. For my own part, there is no seducing me from the path."

Does he mean: Thomas depend upon literature, it is the most noble of profession. In fact, it is about the only one fit for a man. For me, there is nothing that seduces me to make me stray or away from the path of literature?
