Did I tell you that

1. Did I tell you that those Smart cars are really fuel efficient? It makes me want to get one. (Is 'it' referring to 'fuel efficeint'? Or is it totally separate sentence? Like "Smart cars being fuel efficient makes me want to get one." )

2. Did I tell you that those Smart cars are really fuel efficient? They make me want to get one. (Doesn't make much sense here?)

The way I see it : THE FACT that those Smart cars are really fuel efficient makes me want to get one. So 'it' would refer to 'the fact'. Surely some grammar guru will comment on your question further on with a more convincing answer...
