Did

Hello,

in the sentence below, does the short "d" show to did or would?

How'd she initiate a lockdown?

I was watching an American drama and I heard that sentence in there. Do Americans just say slightly" d" instead of saying "did" in spoken? I heard first time.I am confusing.

Thanks

How'd she initiate a lockdown? We cannot tell without the context. Did she do so or only might she have done it?

So, Americans do use "d" as a contraction of did. Is it just used in spoken English or is it used in written too? And is this like only an AmE thing or also a BrE thing??

You can write it informally and in dialogue.

I suspect that it happens in all Englishes.
