dictates a number of letters

The boss dictates a number of letters to his secretary each day, namely, he says them while she types them down.

Does the above sound right? If not, how would you correct it? Thanks.

Hi Angliholic

The boss dictates a number of letters to his secretary each day, namely, he says them while she types them down.

I agree that you don't need the second half of the sentence. If it was your specific intention to define the word 'dictate', then you might start a new sentence with the words "In other words" (for example)

Hi,

'Each day' is not wrong, but I think 'every day' is more natural.
