Diagramming prepositional phrases

Hi,

I am having a little difficulty diagramming some sentences that include prepositional phrases.

I am supposed to write the prepositional phrases under the word/s that they describe.

The sentences are as follows:

In the future, He has even greater things in store for me.

As a young man, Mr. Wilberforce was educated in the best schools.

As a young man, Mr. Newton received little education.

The prepositional phrases are in bold.

Which word/s would you write the prepositional phrases under?

Also, is there a particular method of determining which word in a sentence is being described by the prepositional phrase?

Thanks for your help Emotion: smile

In the first sentence, the prepositional phrase applies to the entire sentence. There are not many systems of diagramming that provide any symbology for taking such things into consideration, so your best bet is to put

Thanks for your help, the second and third sentences were what I thought.

In the first sentence, I diagrammed "In the future" under the direct object "things" because I thought "in the future" was describing where "things" were. Would you say that the phrase could be diagrammed correctly under either words?
