diagonal or across?

Dear natives,

how can I desribe the location of a bank(e.g) diagonal to the school where I work. To put it in other words : should I say "The bank is on the diagonal of my school" or on the crosswise of my school or whatsoever? What is the intercardinal adverb to describe a semi-straight direction from where we are to the crosswise point? I'd appriciate it if you would give some sample sentences. Thanks in advance.

If neither bank nor school is on a corner, The bank is across the street diagonally from my school. If the bank and the school are at an intersection diagonally from each other at the intersection, you can say The bank is [catercorner(ed) / cattycorner(ed) / kittycorner(ed)] from my school. Of these choices I hear "kittycorner" most, but that may be a regional term of American English.

Seen this debate before. Kitty corner was found to be commonly used in the US but unheard of anywhere else. A very useful phrase though, perhaps we should try and spread it further...
