I knew this would happen eventually. I couldn't disagree more. The English alphabet has 26 letters. Diacritics are an affectation unless you italicize the foreign word.

I believe that the choices depend on one's audience. As far as I'm concerned, without (2) accents résumé looks like resume, an altogether different word. American Heritage offers the word with no accent and the word with only the final e accented. The same dictionary offers naïve as well as the masculine naif. (My spellchecker, by the way, wants the two dots include
