It is undeniable that advances in technology have caused numerous environmental problems. While some people think that humans should adapt simple lifestyle, I agree with those who consider technological solutions can be found for environmental issues.

On the one hand, enjoying life with less sophisticated technology means that people inflict less damage on the ecosystem on which all living things depend. Firstly, people comsume energy through overuse technological devices such as air-conditioning, water heaters and the private car. If they live less complicated, they will decrease their energy consumption as well as reduce the emission of greenhouse gases. Secondly, organic farmers do not pollute the soil, the water and the air which result from the application of chemical fertilizers, weedkiller and pesticides.

On the other hand, I agree with those who argue that technological achievements play an important role in environmental protection. One reason is that the developments of technology allow us to exploit many renewable sources such as windpower and tidal power to name but a few. This raises the prospect of decreasing dependence on fossil fuels, which might lead to cleaner air and the reversal of the trend of global warming. Take Japan as a typical instance is leading the way in developing more eco-friendly cars, buses and lorries.Another reason is that cleaner technology, such as water treatment, is introduced into a lot of industries and technology is enabling plastic and other products to be recycled.

In conclusion, while some people support the argument that people should live simpler lives to tackle environmental problems, I personally believe that developments technology is the best step can be found in protecting environment.
