Whether developing countries are responsible for protecting their environment as they achieved the steady economic growth has caused a heated debate. This essay will discuss both views of the problem.

It is obvious that protecting the enviroment is mankind’s duties and responsibilities. In recent years, due to the rapid growth of some nations along with their economies, human beings have been facing an ecological crisis that threatens our lives and existence. Therefore, developing countries need to take strong measures to achieve sustainable development in protecting the environment, instead of concentrating on developing their economy regardless of how this process damages the environment. For instance, national and local authorities of these countries introduce laws which force companies to cut down on emissions while manufacturing and to stop discharging chemical waste into rivers, causing death to many fish and other aquantic animals. Moreover, as sustainable economic growth is only built based on environmental sustainability, the government should pour money into environmental projects with the aim of alleviating environmental problems.

In reality, environmental pollution is inevitable in developing countries. Along with the development of economy is the rise in establishing industrial zones. While developed countries have the resources and technologies to combat pollution, halting environmental pollution may undermine economic growth and competitiveness of developing countries, especially those which have a restricted budget. Therefore, these countries focus on environmental maintenance only after achieving considerable improvement in the living standard of their citizens.

In conclusion, apart from maintaining current economic growth paths, all nations need to give consideration to environmental issues. Only when each country has the ability to incorporate environmental maintenance and economic development does our world become a liveable place.
