"dessicant'/"desicators"?

Those bags of dessicative substances that people use to keep things dry, are those called dessciant???
By googling, it seems to me that it's mostly called dessicant, but my dictionary indicates that it is an ADJECTIVE.
So what exactly is the general term for this type of things?
Please note that they're not "always" made of silica gel.

Yes, it is called a desiccant (note the spelling). The word is both a noun and an adjective.

I stated that I'm looking for a general term for all desiccants, silica gel is only one type of them.
