Despite having experienced to shock he appeared to be calm.

Hello.

Is the sentence below correct?

Despite having experienced to shock he appeared to be calm.

It looks rather good to me, with the exception of 'to shock' which is strange. I think that 'shock' is a noun there rather than a verb and should have some article. My proposals:
a) Despite having experienced the shock he appeared to be calm.
- 'Shock' is known to the receiver, for example as second mention.
b) Despite having experienced a shock he appeared to be calm.
- 'Shock' is countable here.
c) Despite having experienced shock he appeared to be calm.
- 'Shock' is uncountable here.
Are all a), b) and c) correct? What is the difference between b) and c)?

Btw. does it mean that experiencing a shock was earlier in time than being calm?
If I said "Despite experiencing a shock he appeared to be calm", would that mean that experiencing a shock and being calm happened at the same time in the past?
