desert / deserted island

Hi,

do the two sentences below have exactly the same meaning?

a. if you were on a deserted island

b. if you were on a desert island

Would they be common in sentences beginning with "What would you do if...?" or would you rather say "What would you do if you were marooned on an island?" Emotion: wink

Thank you in advance.

Just say "a desert island". Nobody says 'deserted' island. That implies that people use to live there but not anymore, or people live there but no-one is there at the moment, whilst desert island means uninhabited.
