Describe the pictures

Hi. Please help. Let us assume you are to write sentences describing the three pictures, one which shows her father reading a newpaper, another one which shows her receiving her homework in English class, and the final one which shows her studying in the library trying to do her science homework. (Did I write the underlined part correctly?)

Please tell me if we have to use definite articles where and indefinite articles where.

1. This morning, her father read a (the?) newspaper at 7 a.m.

2. She got homework in English class.

3. So she went to the library (a library? I think not since the library she goes to is one, the school library - also assume there is no other library around where she lives) after school.

The underlined part of your sentance looks good. I would ammend the last part to "... and the final one which shows her trying to do her science homework in the library."

Or "... studying science in the library."

"Studying" and "trying to do her science homework" sound like two different actions.. If you must use them both separately I would join them with 'and'.

1. This morning, her father read the newspaper at 7 a.m.

2. She received homework in English class.

3. So she went to the library......

While you could use "a", you are correct in thinking that if there is only one choice, the best word to use is "the".

Hi. Thank you. I really don't want to bring out what a teacher said in a reponse to ask a question on your response, but I am very curious.

Why do you think AlpheccaStar said the following to the sentence I wrote in the post titled "What tense? He is looking sad when is?"? I think she was saying it needs a comma before the word "singing." Do you think the comma is needed there? Could the

Yes, you do need to place a comma after "class".

And I agree with Olive that the second sentence is correct since you are describing a present tense scenario.
