Descend, fall down, land

Hi,

I stood a ladder against a wall. Then later it gradually

fell down to the ground;

came down to the ground;

landed on the ground; or

descended to the ground.

Which is (are) natural?

Does fall mean that something comes down vertically, and descend mean it comes down along a slope?
