In this set of materials, the reading passage mentions the ways to treat depression by medication. On the other hand, the lecturer is doubtful with this treatment.

First of all, the author claims that the most common cause of depression is unbalanced chemicals in the brain. He believes that the depression can only be treated by medication which will balance again these chemicals.
This point is challenged by the lecturer. He says that many factors are responsible of depression. Furthermore he points out that most common cause of depression is bad and sad experiences, so the medications in this case are not the solution.

Moreover, the author states that medication helped successfully many people to overcome their depression.
He argues that thousands of patients could have again normal life using medication. The lecturer rebuts this .he suggests that medication has only short term effect. He elaborates on this by mentioning that if patient stopped taking medication he will return to his depression.

Finally the author mentions that medication are simple to take and easy to deal with them. He is of the opinion that the medications don’t disrupt patients ‘lives. The lecturer, on the other hand states that ignoring the side effects of medication is misleading people. He puts forth the idea that medication can cause trouble in sleep cycle and people react differently to medication. The medication don’t treat depression, they just suppress it for short period
