Dependent clause

Somebody please help me. If i get it right, when independent clause is in the past tense, then dependent clause is in the past tense too. But i've seen so many times that people write something like "i heard you like it" , or "i told him i like him" . But why isn't it "i heard you LIKED it" and "i told him i LIKED him" ???? Someone explain pleasee, this is so confusing

Different tenses are correctly used in the same sentence. I know you went out yesterday. I heard you are going to Rome tomorrow.
