Vocabulary

deparent

I think it is a normal process for animals (including human beings) to be separated from the parents at a certain age. (The problem is that it doesn’t occur normally these days in many of the families here.)

We have the following words:

OYABANARE: children’s becoming independent of their parents (separation from parents)

KOBANARE: parents’ making their children become independent (separation from children)

I wonder if there are any such terms in English.

‘deparent’ or ‘dechild’?

Thank you.

Hi,

We usually just speak of young people 'moving out' or 'leaving home'. This often happens when they go off to college or university.

We also speak of them 'getting their own place'.

Best wishes, Clive
