denote/signify

Hello,
Which one sounds better: "Red roses denote/signify love and passion."? On one hand, denote is used in such contexts: "High temperature often denotes a serious illness." On the other hand, signify might be acceptable as well. To be the sign of something. Could we also say that the red roses represent love and passion? I wouldn't use indicate here.

Thank you Emotion: smile
