Demerits and merits of studying abroad

In today’s world, studying in a foreign country has undoubtedly become ubiquitous in the spheres of education. Although some portray this trend as a negative societal force, others think that this cult does, in fact, result in positive outcomes. In this essay, I will discuss both the downsides and upsides of overseas studying.

On the one hand, several benefits are noteworthy. Specifically, people who study overseas can hone some essential skills subsequently. To exemplify, that students have to accustom themselves to different circumstances aids in upgrading their adaptability. This said skill proves vital for people to handle the erratic nature of the future workplace. Furthermore, studying abroad enables scholars to gain intercultural communication skills. To illustrate, while studying overseas, scholars may encounter many others from different nations, and they will therefore carry out some foreign interlocutions. This may assist scholars in gaining the adroitness in communication, which can lead to important international opportunities in their future life

On the other hand, several drawbacks are associated with overseas studying. To exemplify, residing in an unfamiliar new place makes scholars likely to suffer culture shock. This shock includes meeting new people, experiencing different customs, the feeling of isolation when scholars must adapt to an unknown environment and culture. Consequently, it causes a considerable amount of stress that makes scholars’ academic performances degrade as a result. Secondly, studying abroad is prohibitive. Particularly, the cost of overseas studying includes travel expenses, tuition, utilities, local transportation, and the overall cost of living, which is astronomical for a domestic student. Thus, sufficient funds need to be prepared if scholars want to study in an elite educational institution.

In conclusion, studying overseas has both merits and demerits. From my perspective, despite some disadvantages from studying overseas such as the cost and the experience of culture shock, it should be encouraged for students for better opportunities in their future careers.
