Delinquent youths

A local newspaper, quoting the police, said, four delinquent youths picked her up from her family home around , took her to a nearby jungle, raped her by turn and then left her unconscious.

Is the adjective “delinquent” correctly placed here? What other alternatives do I have for it? Do so many actions in a single sentence such as this one make it look unattractive? Thanks.
