defusion

The word 'defusion' is defined as follows;
"a reversal of the fusion between instincts that accompanies maturity or a reversal of the fusion between instincts that accompanies maturity"

What is meant by this definition? I cannot imagine what situation would be described.

com/defusion , it is a term in psychoanalysis and means: separation of the life instinct from the death instinct, a process often accompanying maturity In other words, when one is young one's "life instinct" and "death instinct" are supposed to be fused, and as one matures they are supposed to separate. A lot of psychoanalysis is mumbo-jumbo, so this may be also.

No, it is a very specialised word (in this sense) and most people would not know it.

Where did you see the word? In fact, it seems to be used more often to refer to the process of defusing a bomb, though I'm not sure it's 100% standard English in that meaning.

I just saw this word in the web- English dictionary.
'Defusing a bomb or mine' is also exemplified under the meaning of what you said in your post.

In the UK, it most usually means to take the fuse out of a bomb in order to stop it exploding

As GPY says, it also has a specialised meaning in psychotherapy - particularly in ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy)

Hi

I wasn't contradicting - I expect the word is used whenever two instincts, thoughts or emotions are separated

Interesting word but, as you say, not something you'd hear every day
