Definitions for 'along'

Hi teachers,
The definitions are just intended for the students to understand the preposition, not to change the definitions for the preposition.
Having said that, would they be natural definitions for 'along' for the following sentence? 'He drives her along the beach'.

a) In a constant direction on
b) in a constant direction close to
c) in a line parallel and close to

Thanks in advance.

I like none of those. I suggest eg in a direction parallel to the water, usually on but sometimes just close to the beach. Clive

Hi Cive,
Thanks for your help.
Could it be, 'in a direction parallel and close to the beach?'

'close to' does not mean 'on'.

Hi Clive,
Thanks! Right. I know that. Close means near.
