Definition of transcends

Sui is one of the most celebrated names in American fashion, known for her timeless designs and ability to transcend eras with historical and culturally inspired collections.

I thought transcends = surpass. But in this paragraph it seems to me at least to mean something different.

Hmm. That surprises me. It fits for me.

He/She has [gone beyond / passed beyond] this kind of thinking (about specific eras).

I suppose you could say that he/she thinks about fashion on a higher level than those who think in terms of eras.
