Definite article should be there?

Hi. Please help. I think there should be the definite article "the" in the place indicated (in parentheses).

You can have "a" or no article there, but "the" doesn't make sense. Well, maybe it does, but it's not the first thing I'd think of. CJ

Hi, thank you again. Can you check if the article is correctly placed in no. 1 and no article is correct in no. 2? I am sure both sentences are positive things we can do for our planet, assuming a typical room has more than one light. Thank you again in advance for your help.
