Definite article needed there?

Hi. Is the definite article needed when a person is repeating part of a statement (that is in the superlative, as in "the third grade") in the short dialogue below? Thank you in advance for your help.

A: He is in the third grade.
B: (The?) Third grade?

Sorry, I got mixed-up. Yes, the phrase "the third grade" isn't in the superlative. Thanks.
