Definite article - need clarification

I've recently asked this question about the article use ():
This strategy allows an investor to invest with moderate risk.
This strategy allows the investor to invest with moderate risk.

We've established that either article is correct (there was no prior mention).
"An investor" means any investor.
What about "the"? Does it mean "the investor who uses the strategy" or "the investor as an abstract entity"? I know it's correct, I just want to be able to explain it to myself. Thank you.
