Definite and Indefinite Article Usage

Of the following sentences:


a) I play football for the love of the game.

b) I play football for a love of the game.

c) I play football for love of the game.


I think a) is more widely used than the other two. Am I right? Thank you.

For me, (a) is the norm. (c) seems less usual, but I wouldn't say that it is wrong. (b) seems wrong to me.
