Dear teachers,
I have a question concerning defining clauses in apposition:
1. His son John was at his grandmother?s place.
2. His son, John, was at his grandmother?s place.
Is there a need for a comma as in No.2?
Thank you very much for your patience and help.

SelvakumarIs there a need for a comma as in No.2?
No. Even without the commas we know exactly who was at his grandmother's place.
By the way, in your header you described this as "defining". That alone means you won't be using commas.
