Defining and non-defining

How can I differentiate between defining clause and non-defining clause ??

A defining clause is necessary for the complete meaning of the sentence. A non-defining is not necessary for the complete meaning, it just gives extra information.

1) The man who wears a green T-shirt is my brother.

The clause in bold is a defining relative clause. Without it, the sentence "The man is my brother" doesn't make sense. (Which man?)
