Defines this word as derogatory

The dictionary defines this word as derogatory.

Can I use "define as" like that? I don't mean the meaning of the word is "derogatory." I mean the word is perceived as derogatory, and the dictionary mentions that.

For example, the word "https://www.lexico.com/en/definition/yankee" is labeled "derogatory" on Lexico. Can I say that Lexico defines "Yankee" as derogatory?

Yes, you can write it like that and be understood. More accurately, though, the dictionary notes that the word is derogatory rather than defines it thus. CJ
