Deeply pocketed

Hi! Can anybody tell me what does the writer mean by "deeply pocketed" at the following sentence? I found it in Henderson the Rain King by Saul Bellow.
I saw him at the opposite end of the room, extended on a green sofa about ten feet in length, crescent-shaped, with heavy upholstery, deeply pocketed and bulging.

'Pocket' here does not seem to hold its usual meaning. It seems to refer to the contours of the sofa—perhaps it has many indentations from repeated use.

This refers to 'deep buttoning', a form of upholstery to overstuff, then deeply indent a diamond pattern of 'pockets' using twine and buttons.
