Deeply held vs deeply rooted.

Does any of the following sound natural? If none,how would you say it?

1 I don't want to live in a country with such a deeply held history of discrimination like this one.

2 I don't want to live in a country with such a deeply rooted history of discrimination like this one.

Hi I'd say that, in a country with a deeply rooted history of discrimination, some of the population may still have deeply held discriminatory beliefs The history of the country are it's roots; some of the notions that are part of that history may be deeply rooted. 'Deeply held' seems to me to refer to how strongly people wish to assert those notions in the present day. It may be that, despite the history, the beliefs are not deeply held - or maybe not held at all Dave
