Vocabulary

Deepest province

Dear Friends,

In a film A was trying to persuade B to go with him to live in a foreigh country and A says:

"Come on, you live here in the deepest province."

Does 'deepest province' have a figurative (or slang) meaning? I cannot find it in any dictionary.

Thank you.

Are you sure it was 'in the deepest province' and not 'in deepest Provence'. Provence is a region in southern France - living in 'deepest Provence' would mean they live in a remote rural part of Provence.

Dear Kate,

I'm sure it was 'province' (subtitled film). Now, at least, I know that there is no such an idiom in English as 'deepest province'.

Thanks for your help.

Take care,

Hi,

Subtitles are not always a correct reflection of what is said.
