Deep pronunciation rules

Hi,
I am a non-native TEFL teacher. I've been seeking for some time now for some reference source, preferably a book of a more in-depth study of British English pronunciation.
I know it sounds heavy stuff but I have time, willingness and patience to get into this sort of investigation.
If you know o any potential sources of such knowledge, please llet me know.

Hello, Lukas One of the best books I've read on pronunciation is Daniel Jones' "An Outline of English Phonetics". It's a rather old book, but it's very very good. I don't know if it's out of print now, but I'm sure you'll be able to find it in a library, or in a used-books store.

  • The book deals with the nature of speech, the difficulties of pronunciation, types of pronunciation, a thorough description of the organs of speech and also of each English sound, a classification of English vowel and consonant sounds, stress, intonation, rhythm.
  • It's not a very long book, and it's farily easy reading.

He Lucas,

I am planning on taking a TEFL course in Thailand. Recently I got my bachelor's degree in Japanese language and culture. I am however a Dutch citizen and therefore a non-native English speaker. What do you think my chances are in becoming a certified TEFL-teacher in Asia?

kind regards,

Willem
