deem/consider

Hello,
Would it be acceptable to use deem in this sentence: "For some reason breastfeeding is deemed to be disgusting."? I personally think that deem is more formal.

It's fine in your sentence. I don't know about more formal, but certainly more solemn, as it has the connotation not just of "consider," but considered judgment.

Yes, in the sense that it's a higher register word.

considered, judged, thought. All of these also fit the context if you're looking for a substitute.
