Decribing the position

Hi. Let us presume that there is a picture of six people standing in a row, facing forward, and your job is to describe those people in terms of their standing position. Are these sentences correct? Let us also pretend the letters "XXX", "YYY" and "ZZZ" represent people. I want to say that I am sure the sentences make sense positionally.

XXX is standing in the middle of the row.

YYY is to the left of XXX.

ZZZ is standing at (on?) the farthest left.

QQQ is second from the left.

*** is standing in the middle of the row.-- No good; with a row of 6 persons, there is no middle person

YYY is to the left of ***.-- Fine, but a listener may well ask you whether it is ***'s left or the listener's left.

ZZZ is standing at the extreme left.
QQQ is second from the left.-- OK.
