Decrepit Vocab

Is the word decrepit being used correctly here?
After wearing it for 5 years, my running shoes have become decrepit.

Note that you should use '...wearing them (shoes=plural)'.

The subject of the second part of the sentence has to be the same as the subject of the first part. I'm not sure what this error is called, but here are two possible correct forms:

After wearing the shoes for five years, I ...... (I was the one wearing the shoes.)

After being worn for five years, the shoes . . . (The shoes were

khoffAlso, "decrepit" is a somewhat obscure word -- not very commonly used in casual conversation. It's more applicable to something hundreds of years old than a few years old.
I disagree. It's not all that uncommon. As for the 'hundreds of years old', look at some of the citations

Okay, maybe I just don't use the word much myself. I don't like it -- the word itself seems oddly unfinished to me. Sorry!
