Decrease

What is the difference between decrease and reduce? Dictionaries say both are transitive and intransitive. Can I say, "the hours of hours were decreased from 8 to 7.

  • If transitivity properties were the only difference between verbs, "sleep" would mean the same as "die", and "find" would mean the same as "lose".
