Hi all

Is it natural to say 'Idioms cannot usually be deconstructed to give meaning'?

Thanks

It's understandable, but give is a bit awkward to my ear. I think I'd use reveal instead. CJ

It seems natural to me because of the timeliness of the process. Back engineering is on many people's minds these days, both in terms of software and hardware - industrial espionage and piracy, fantastic speculation about alien technology, etc.

Is this the expression for it being used now? I've always heard it called "reverse engineering".

"Reverse engineering" is clearly the higher register version.Emotion: smile

Edit. Hmmm. - A trifle embarrassing.
