Deciding the grammar

I came across this question:
Question: Did you know that Amenda is currently the most famous singer in this country?
Answer 1: I did know that she is the top and that is why I came to find her.
Answer 2: I did know that she was the top and that is why I came to find her.

I found that both types of answer like 1 and 2 are being used commonly by English speaker but I don't know which one is the best answer.

For me, I think Answer 2 is the best because the question ask "Did you know...", so the answer should be "I did know she was the top.." is best fitted for the response.

My problem is, how come the Answer 1 like "I did know that she is the top..." can be used? This sentence is kind of violated the grammar rules by using "she is the top..." after "I did know" because I did know means what you knew in the past.

If you were being asked for the above question, how would your answer be? Like answer type 1 or 2? And why?

I answered this in your other thread, Munchun-- and I think you realize the answer now too: If the condition still holds true at the present time, the writer has the option of regressing the dependent verb or keeping it in the present tense.
